IDAHO FALLS – Chase Bank is consolidating two branches in this area. The bank is closing the branch in Idaho Falls proper, directing customers to a branch four miles away in Ammon, as of Jan. 30.

The Idaho Falls branch is located in a Fred Meyer department store.

“Foot traffic is really down in that particular branch,” said Darcy Donahoe-Wilmot, a spokeswoman for Chase Bank. “There’s been a huge increase in mobile and online.”

The branch was originally a branch of Washington Mutual. Chase entered the Idaho market in 2008 with its acquisition of Washington Mutual.

“In addition to that, customer needs have evolved over the years,” Donahoe-Wilmot said. “The bank has become more of an advice center.”

Because the Ammon branch is an actual standalone branch, it’s more conducive for customer privacy for such discussions, she said.

Accounts will remain with Chase, so no action is required to use existing checks, ATM/debit cards or credit cards, Donahoe-Wilmot said.
