As Senate Minority Leader for the Idaho State Senate, Melissa Wintrow is committed to collaborating with colleagues to address challenges in the state.

As a former women’s center director, she’s been able to leverage her knowledge and experience to benefit Idahoans by spearheading a series of five bills, which have transformed the state’s approach to sexual assault kit evidence. Wintrow also has more than two decades of experience working in higher education. This combination of education and advocate work was an excellent foundation for her work in the government.

She’s served in her Senate role for the past 11 years and in the past 18 months, played a key part in passing legislation that established a crisis hold for individuals with neurocognitive disorders who pose a danger to themselves or others.

“I remain dedicated to developing long-term solutions for individuals and their caregivers,” Wintrow shared. “The rapid growth of the aging population presents a critical challenge in delivering compassionate care for those experiencing neurodegenerative conditions. While this is one of the most difficult problems I’ve encountered, I am committed to persevering in the search for improved solutions.”
