For the last nine years, David Duro has served as the CEO of Treasure Valley Family YMCA. In addition to it being the state’s largest provider of child care, the organization offers education and leadership development, mental and physical wellness programs, and more.

Coming from a low-income, single-parent family, Duro was the first person in his family to graduate college. He knows what it’s like to overcome struggles and uses his life experience to lead the organization with a combination of tenacity and empathy.

He shared that there have been many accomplishments during his tenure as CEO, but he’s most proud of navigating the pandemic and the threats that put on the organization.

“Working side by side with talented team members, committed volunteers and amazing partners, we have delivered far reaching impacts to a great number of people,” he explained. “We help 65,000 members achieve higher levels of mental and physical health. For me, the greatest accomplishment is when someone shares their YMCA lifechanging story with me.”

Duro is excited about what’s on the horizon. This year, the organization will be one of the first 50 YMCAs to receive the gold standard Praesidium Child Abuse Prevention accreditation and will also break ground on the new downtown Boise Y project.

“The YMCA is in the business of improving people’s lives and strengthening the fabric of our society,” he said. “We bring people together, help them learn to appreciate and value others, and work together to achieve common goals.”
