Michael Shepard has been involved for more than 32 years at NeighborWorks Boise, first as a volunteer and now, more than 12 and a half years as an employee.

After working as a banker for 25 years, he is glad he made the transition to the nonprofit world and now serves as the organization’s rehab and asset manager. He manages the city of Meridian’s Homeowner Repair Program, which has helped 25 owners with weatherization, emergency and safety/soundness repairs of their home. Shepard also oversees the entire portfolio of affordable rental housing, which includes 282 rental units.

“There is nothing better than seeing others succeed,” he said.

He also belongs to the Idaho Workforce Housing Group, which assists in getting legislation passed to allocate money to the Idaho Workforce Fund to help with affordable housing.

“I feel that the work we do at NeighborWorks has helped low- to moderate-income families with their housing needs,” Shepard said. “I couldn’t do any of this without the amazing and compassionate team I work with. From Paint the Town to Rake Up Boise, our Pocket Neighborhoods, our Home Share Program, City of Meridian Homeowner repair program, and the special loan programs we have in our lending department ― all help Idahoans with their housing needs. A safe, secure home is the foundation for success.”
