Post Falls woman receives up to 5 years for insurance fraud

Michelle Stone, of Post Falls, was sentenced in District Court and given supervised probation in favor of up to five years in prison. Stone also must complete 150 hours of community service and pay restitution, court costs and related fines.

The Fraud Unit investigated Stone after she reported an alleged burglary to the Post Falls Police Department and filed a claim with . Stone supplied the insurance company with photographs purporting to show evidence of the burglary, however, investigators determined the photos were taken after the date of burglary.

“This case demonstrates the importance of thorough investigation and cooperation between law enforcement and the Department of Insurance,” said Dean Cameron, director of IDOI. “Insurance fraud is a serious crime that affects every honest policyholder through higher premiums.”

Stone was tried on July 9, 2025, and sentenced on Oct. 14, 2025.
