Key Story Highlights:
A Meridian man was sentenced recently for insurance fraud.
On Jan. 28, the Idaho Department of Insurance stated that Cory Fuller had pleaded guilty and was convicted of one count of felony insurance fraud. He was sentenced on Jan. 17.
The department was contacted by Safeco Insurance in November 2019 informing the agency that Fuller was terminated as an agent for the insurance company due to fabricated information. According to DOI, “Fuller had submitted applications for auto insurance policies with fabricated information that subsequently were canceled for non-payment.”
In February of 2021, the DOI revoked Fuller’s insurance license in Idaho due to the allegations.
Each of the policies, the department stated, listed Fuller and relatives as drivers on 17 high-end vehicles from different locations around Idaho. None of the vehicles were owned by the former agent or the relatives, nor did he have any “insurable interest in these vehicles.”
The department stated that Fuller received $30,943 in unearned commission from fraudulent policies.
“Misconduct by licensed agents is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the department,” said Dean Cameron, director of the Idaho Department of Insurance. “Insurance agents are expected to conduct themselves with integrity and to abide by Idaho Insurance Code. I’m thankful for the hard work and diligence of our investigations unit for following up on this case.”
Fuller was sentenced to seven years in prison on Jan. 17, but that was suspended in lieu of seven years of supervised probation. He must also serve 100 hours of community service within three years and 24 days in the Ada County Jail. According to the department, he was also denied a withheld judgement and ordered to pay court costs and restitution to Safeco in the amount of $30,707 and $770 to the Idaho Department of Insurance.
