WOW Logistics broke ground June 24 on a $16 million expansion to its warehouse space in Jerome. WOW provides third-party logistics for Davisco Foods International, the parent company of Jerome Cheese, which has its plant close to the warehouse space.
The new warehouse, which is expected to be finished in January, is 193,000 square feet. Once finished, WOW will have 626,000 square feet of ambient and temperature-controlled space. Davisco officials said the expansion will allow the company to lower its distribution costs by storing more cheese and dairy products closer to where it is made.
WOW first built warehouse space in Jerome in 2002 and added additional space in 2004 and 2008, with 434,000 square feet of space now. WOW Vice President of Marketing Randy Radtke said more space is needed because of Jerome Cheese’s growth.
The general contractor for the new warehouse construction is the Wisconsin-based Utschig Inc., a company affiliated with WOW. Radtke said WOW has seven staff members and will add to that number when the additional warehouse space is completed.
