Boise Airport adds ninth airline with domestic, international service

Travelers will soon have more airline options through the Boise Airport.

Sun Country Airlines is the ninth and latest airline to provide service to the airport, adding to the destinations people can reach through Boise Airport.

The Minneapolis, Minnesota-based airline joins Aeromexico, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Korean Air, Lufthansa, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic as the companies operating out of the local hub.

In addition to Boise, Sun Country will offer service to Albuquerque, New Mexico; Billings and Missoula, Montana; Dulles International in Virginia/Washington, D.C.; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Oakland, California; and Syracuse, New York. Service to the airports will be twice weekly in most cases.

Sun Country will also be adding service to Montréal-Trudeau International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada starting in June of next year, increasing its lineup of international destinations, which also includes Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, the company stated.

The airline will have 120 routes serving 104 airports throughout the U.S. and abroad. Sun Country operates more than 42 passenger planes and 12 freighter planes and employs more than 2,500 people, most of whom work in Minnesota.

“We have more than doubled our nonstop destinations for customers flying out of (Minneapolis/St. Paul) in the last five years and we are thrilled to offer these unique new offerings spanning the continent from Quebec to New Mexico,” said Grant Whitney, senior vice president and chief revenue officer for Sun Country, in a statement.

Idaho travelers will be able to book passage on nonstop flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul through Sun Country and connect to its other destinations, however it’s not the only airline operating through Boise that offers nonstop flights to the Twin Cities. It does increase the number of flight options customers have.

Sun Country bills itself as “a new breed of hybrid low-cost air carrier,” focusing on what it calls “leisure and visiting friends and relatives passengers.” It also provides cargo service to Amazon.
