As the interim director of Continuing Education and Workforce Training for Idaho State University since 2023, RaeLyn Price has worked hard to expand the school’s range of offerings at continuing education workforce training (CEWT). So far, they’ve worked to launch new short-term courses in high-demand fields like health care, enhanced “earn as you learn” apprenticeship programs, and fostered more partnerships with local businesses for customized training solutions. There are big goals on the horizon, too.
Price explained, “Over the next year, some of our department goals include further expanding our course offerings to cover emerging industries and technologies, increasing outreach efforts to underserved communities, enhancing the accessibility of our programs through online and hybrid learning options, and strengthening collaborations with our industry partners to ensure our training aligns with evolving workforce needs.”
Price believes there are a few key ingredients to raise up a strong workforce in Idaho.
“First, we need education and training systems that are not only robust but also adaptable to the needs of our industries,” she said. “Second, fostering partnerships between educational institutions, industry and government entities is essential. Investing in STEM education is also crucial for fostering innovation and competitiveness in our state. Additionally, we must prioritize the opportunity for everyone, regardless of background, to have equal access to opportunities for skill development and career advancement. Lastly, promoting lifelong learning and adaptability will be key in preparing individuals to thrive in an economy that’s constantly evolving.”
