Donald Murray shared that after graduating from college, he wasn’t sure what type of career path to take. He worked for companies like Honeywell, Xerox and Hewlett-Packard before entering the world of health benefits with leadership roles with United Healthcare. With a decade of work under his belt at Delta Dental of Idaho, he was promoted to senior vice president of sales and government relations last year.
“We are at a pivotal time at Delta Dental of Idaho,” he said. “I am looking forward to contributing to building our roadmap in government affairs and advocacy for our business and lead business engagement, development and strategy for the company as we pursue our mission for improved oral health for Idahoans.”
This summer, he’s looking forward to closing the organization’s $6.4 million fundraising campaign as they open the new Philip E. Batt Building on the evolving Wassmuth Center for Human Rights campus, home of the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial.
Human rights is another one of Murray’s passions, so this project has significant meaning. He served as a volunteer and on the Wassmuth Center governance board for more than 10 years and then volunteered to co-chair Delta Dental’s education center campaign and the construction of the building.
“My job at Delta Dental has primarily been advocacy,” Murray said. “I am helping Idahoans make the connection between quality oral and overall health. It’s an endless battle against “oral apathy.” I like helping people understand that you must prevent versus react to oral health disease.”
