Few leaders have faced the test of taking charge during a global pandemic, but Danielle Sanders embraced the challenge when she became CEO of Good Samaritan Home in October 2020. Under her guidance, the organization has not only weathered global difficulties but emerged as a stronger, more innovative force in addressing Boise’s affordable housing crisis.

Sanders brings a combination of business acumen and social purpose to her role. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Boise State University and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the same institution. Currently pursuing her Project Management Professional certification, Sanders shows commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

When Sanders stepped into the CEO position, Good Samaritan Home was grappling with the operational challenges created by COVID-19. Housing providers nationwide were struggling with new safety protocols, financial pressures and increased demand for services. Rather than simply maintaining the status quo, Sanders saw an opportunity for transformation.

“Danielle stepped into the CEO role during one of the most turbulent moments in recent memory, the height of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Lisa Martin, CEO of Boise Regional Realtors. “She took on an organization steeped in legacy, but lacking infrastructure: No digital systems, no formal procedures and a staff untrained in modern tools.”

Good Samaritan Home now serves individuals who make less than 30% of the area median income, providing not just housing but comprehensive support including three meals daily and all utilities. Under her leadership, the organization has prevented 45 Boise residents from experiencing homelessness while developing innovative new programs.

“Since becoming CEO in 2020, Danielle has led Good Samaritan Home through a dramatic transformation,” said John T. Vance, board president of Good Samaritan Home. “Through her leadership, Good Samaritan Home has evolved into a vital organization offering essential services to low-income adults in Boise.”

Sanders has forged strategic partnerships with Boise State University’s Idaho Policy Institute to develop pilot programs addressing the needs of individuals transitioning from foster care. This initiative reinforces health and well-being for young adults, seniors, veterans and adults with disabilities while expanding access to job placement and life skills training.

Her advocacy work extends to regional and national platforms. Sanders regularly participates in Urban Land Institute conferences, connecting local expertise with national best practices in affordable housing development. She has also spearheaded major fundraising initiatives, including the Avenues for Hope campaign.

“One of Danielle’s most inspiring qualities is her ability to foster connection and hope among those she serves,” said Rich Jarvis, president of Epic Capital Funds. “Whether engaging with residents, staff or community partners, Danielle creates an environment of dignity and mutual respect.”

Sanders’ vision for the organization includes expanding beyond traditional housing services. She is currently developing plans to pilot new initiatives serving youth aging out of the foster care system, representing a proactive approach to preventing homelessness before it occurs.
