Meridian will soon become home to a new 60,000-square-foot specialty grocery store.

Spokane-based Rosauers Supermarkets will build a new store on the southeast corner of Ustick and Eagle roads in the Gateway Marketplace. The store includes a full grocery, a specialty and ethnic food department, and a 10,000-square-foot area of natural and organic products called Huckleberry’s Natural Market. The store will also feature a deli and seating area, a cooking school, and a drive-through pharmacy

Rosauers President and CEO Jeff Philipps confirmed Mar. 23 that construction will begin in August 2011 with an expected completion date in spring 2012. The company, along with Reddy Developments of Arizona, had been looking to expand into Southwest Idaho for nearly two years. Bernardo Wills Architects PC of Spokane is the architect.

“We looked at sites in both Boise and Meridian and found this one would allow to build the size of store that would meet the demographics of the area,” Philipps said.

Additional stores are also proposed in the Treasure Valley, but no timeline or locations have been determined.

“Based on the successful launch of this store, we plan to follow with additional locations,” he said.

Rosauers also expects to hire about 120 employees.

“Our market strategy is quality, service and selection and we think people in Meridian will be pleased with this facility and its mix of products,” Philipps said.

The company operates 21 locations across the Northwest, including two stores in Lewiston and Moscow.
