Idaho Nonprofit Center adds staffers, board members

The Idaho Nonprofit Center welcomes Cristi Schooley as the communication & program coordinator. She joins the organization from Idaho Public Television where she worked in various roles for more than six years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Mass Communication Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Marketing from Boise State University.

Garrett Kalt has been promoted to training and programs manager at the Idaho Nonprofit Center. He joined the Center’s team in July and has created programs. He joined the Center’s Equity Task Force.

Salome Mwangi has called Boise home since relocating here 16 years ago via the refugee resettlement program from Nairobi, Kenya. She has a professional background in banking, finance and IT, which she gained while working in Kenya. Since moving to the US, she uses her multilingual skills to foster communication between former refugees and their service providers as they navigated systems in making the Treasure Valley home. Along the way, she has become a cultural broker, realizing that the culture behind each language bears weight in living life with cross-cultural relevance. She currently manages the Refugee Speakers Bureau at the Idaho Office for Refugees.

Joe Stegner is a lifetime resident of Idaho, having spent his early years growing up in Grangeville and working summers in the family grain elevator business. He is a graduate of the University of Idaho and spent 25 years in the family business. In the mid-1980s, he moved his family, along with the grain company headquarters, to Lewiston. In 1995, the Stegner family sold the grain business to a larger international grain company.

Stegner was elected to the Idaho Senate in 1998, representing Lewiston and the surrounding area. He served eight years as the Senate Assistant Majority Leader and also served as the chairman of the Senate Local Government and Taxation Committee. After 13 years in the Idaho Senate, he resigned his seat to join the University of Idaho as the Special Assistant to the President for State Governmental Relations, and he remains in that position today.

Heidi B. Rogers, Ed.D. has been the executive director of Northwest Council for Computer Education, a nonprofit professional learning organization and the largest training partner for Microsoft, since 2002. She was recently awarded the Idaho Business Review CEO of Influence. Nationally recognized for her leadership skills as well as her accomplishments in educational technology, in 2016 she was highlighted as a “Hero in Education” by Microsoft. She has served on Apple’s National K-12 Advisory Board and was honored as one of Apple’s first Distinguished Educators.

Rogers is past president of six nonprofit organizations including the Coeur d’Alene Rotary Club, Coeur d’Alene Rotary Foundation, the EXCEL Foundation, Professional Convention Management Association, NCCE, and the International Society of Technology Education. She is also the current past Chair of the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce. She also volunteers with a variety of local nonprofit organizations including Kootenai Health Foundation Board, Idaho Community Foundation Board, Coeur d’Alene Summer Theater, Coeur d’Alene Library Foundation Board, Coeur d’ Irish, Hospice of North Idaho and Wine, Women and Shoes.

Rogers received her Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Oklahoma State University with an emphasis in Information Communication and Educational Technology. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Secondary Education from Oklahoma State University.
