Meridian-based Scentsy grew in 2020. The company is best known for its direct-sales business model and its ceramic-warmer fragrance dispensers that scent a room like a candle but without the danger of an open flame. To accommodate its growth, the firm is adding two warehouses to its 73-acre Scentsy Commons campus off of Pine Avenue. Scentsy is also expanding its existing fragrance oil storage building. All facilities are expected to be finished and operational by spring 2022.

“The larger of the two buildings will be 211,000 square feet and will be finished this fall,” Scentsy marketing strategist Serena Averett told the Idaho Business Review. “The other warehouse will be 41,000 square feet and is scheduled be completed in February 2022.”

The project has a budget of $25 million, according to Averett. The architectural and design firm is the Boise office of Cushing Terrell. The general contractor is Engineered Structures Inc. of Meridian.

Scentsy is also opening a fourth distribution center in the United States this year, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. That project is on track to be fully operational by mid-summer. “This past year has been both challenging and rewarding for us at Scentsy,” said company president Dan Orchard in a statement. “We feel so blessed that we saw such growth worldwide last year that we need this extra storage at Scentsy Commons. We are also thrilled to extend our Scentsy family in Rock Hill, South Carolina. We can’t wait to see what the next chapter of Scentsy will bring.”

The company sells its products through a network of over 100,000 independent sales consultants running home-based businesses in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. The company sells its signature lightbulb-powered warmers and scented bars in more than 80 different fragrances. It also sells scented travel tins, hanging air fresheners, room spray, hand soap, and stuffed animals with pockets for scent packs.

Scentsy is a privately-held firm, owned by Orville and Heidi Thompson, who started the company in 2004. It has an estimated 1,000 full-time employees, according to Forbes. The company made the Forbes list of the 100 best mid-size employers in both 2018 and 2021. According to trade journal Direct Selling News, Scentsy had $472 million in sales in 2019.
