Katie Bösch-Wilson stepped into her leadership role as the STEM education coordination officer for Idaho STEM Action Center two years ago. Since then, she has worked with a variety of partners, from public agencies to private sectors, supporting K-12 educators to bring STEM skills to their students.

“STEM skills are transferable skills to every job in the 21st century,” she said. “Supporting K-12 educators and students will better the workforce of tomorrow for the state of Idaho. My work has allowed me to work closely with industry partners and high-education partners to identify their needs and help translate those needs to educators.”

Bösch-Wilson said that looking at the next year, she is excited about what the future holds. She plans to work with private industry partners, public agencies and educators to revise the statewide K-12 Computational Thinking and Digital Literacy Plan, which was put in place in 2016. Together, they will make updates that will give students the STEM skills needed to become leaders and confidently step into jobs.

“We must look at the K-12 workforce, and not simply look at the folks who are headed into the job market tomorrow,” she said. “The students who are in elementary schools today are the innovators, computer scientists and engineers of tomorrow.”
