Following a controversial hand gesture at a meeting over the weekend, a top executive in Boise has resigned his position.

Tom Hill resigned from as the CEO of ESI Construction on Feb. 24. During a state of the company event over the weekend, Hill made a Nazi salute several times which was caught on video. He later issued a statement apologizing for the gesture and said it was a poor attempt at humor and part of a skit mimicking the current state of politics.

Hill said in a statement he was being unfairly judged due to the content of the skit.

Neil Nelson, the company’s current president, assumed the role of CEO and chairman of the board. He said the company was dedicated to its mission and principals.

“Our focus now is on healing and moving forward. We are dedicated to ensuring that our mission remains clear and that every decision we make reflects the principles that define ,” Nelson said. “With Dallis’ leadership and the formation of a dedicated Corporate Responsibility Task Force, I am confident we will emerge a more compassionate company.”

Along with Nelson being moved into the lead position, Dallis Fontenot was promoted was promoted to chief people officer. “Her deep understanding of ESI’s company and culture and her commitment to fostering an environment of respect and collaboration will play a critical role in guiding our people strategy,” the company stated.

The company also reported that it has formed a Corporate Responsibility Task Force.

“This task force, in partnership with the community, will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of ESI’s current practices and policies, with a particular focus on fostering respect across all levels of our organization,” the company stated.
