Bogus Basin manager honored with lifetime achievement in tourism

Thanks to his hard work and dedication to a Boise ski resort and the region’s tourism industry, one man has been honored for a lifetime of work.

Brad Wilson, general manager of Bogus Basin Resort in Boise, was awarded the Governor’s Lifetime Achievement in Recreation and Tourism Award at the Idaho Conference on Recreation and Tourism last week in Idaho Falls.

Wilson has also held leadership roles at resorts throughout the country, been the past president of the Idaho Ski Areas Association and Visit Boise board of directors, and he is a current member of the National Ski Areas Association board.

Lt. Gov. Scott Bedke presented the award to Wilson at the event. Along with Wilson’s honor, Visit Boise received the “Best Campaign Over $50,000” award, Southeast Idaho High Country received the “Best Campaign Less Than $50,000” award, and the Southwest Idaho Travel Association received the “Judges’ Choice” Award.

Wilson, who has been the manager of Bogus Basin for 10 years, is credited with creating “transformative growth” at the destination, which has seen annual visits grow from 172,000 to more than 600,000 people annually.

He has reinvested “nearly $70 million into projects that strengthen Bogus Basin’s mission of accessible, affordable mountain recreation and education. These include expanded summer operations, installing Idaho’s second-largest snowmaking system, three new chairlifts and other major improvements that have elevated the guest experience,” a release stated.

“Brad’s exemplary leadership and dedication to Idaho’s recreation and tourism industry have left an enduring mark on our state,” said Gov. Brad Little. “Through his vision, Bogus Basin has become a model for sustainable, year-round recreation and education, benefiting Idaho families, visitors and communities alike. This award recognizes his outstanding contributions, commitment to excellence and lasting impact on the vitality of Idaho’s outdoor economy.”

Beyond his work to bolster and uplift the tourism industry, Wilson walks the walk and skis the ski, so to speak. He is an avid skier, mountain biker, hiker and outdoorsman in general.

“His career reflects a deep commitment to preserving Idaho’s outdoor traditions and ensuring that future generations can enjoy the landscapes and experiences that make Idaho special,” a release stated.
