Kaylee Hill studied at Boise State University and graduated in 2020 with a bachelor’s of sci-ence in social science and a minor in criminal justice. Her career in the legal space began in 2022 when she first started with Smith + Malek — now Malek + Malek — a law firm that specializes in general counsel, corporate litigation and health care law, where she now serves as lead legal assistant.

“I have always enjoyed problem solving and helping others navigate complex situations,” Hill said of her choice to work in the legal sphere. “Throughout the years as a legal assis-tant, I have realized how much impact support roles have in keeping things running smooth-ly and moving forward. I also really enjoy the behind-the-scenes aspect of the job.”

As lead legal assistant, Hill is the primary point of both administrative and legal support. She handles all manner of things for the firm including client communications, legal docu-ment preparation and scheduling. In her time at Malek + Malek, Hill has had the chance to learn a great deal from her colleagues.

“I have been fortunate enough to work alongside several incredible attorneys but a few that will always stand out to me are Cora Whitney, Emily Geddes and Luke Malek,” Hill shared. “They have taught me that humility and integrity go further than any title. They’ve also re-minded me that asking questions and continuing to learn is what keeps you growing, no matter how long you’ve been in the field.”

And while working in the legal sphere does require an understanding of the law, Hill learned and embraced the idea that success in the law space is not just about knowing the law. “[I]t is about relationships. Clear communication, patience and empathy can completely change how a client experience plays out,” Hill said. “I have also learned that staying orga-nized and calm even when things are fast-paced and unpredictable makes all the difference in how you show up for your team and clients.”

Hill added that working in business and real estate law has given her a chance to support clients who are investing in the community. “Whether it’s helping a small business owner get started or ensuring a project moves forward smoothly, I take pride in knowing our team’s work contributes to local growth.”
