HCA Healthcare earns top health system honor for fourth straight year

West Valley Medical Center and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center are part of a health system that has landed on a prominent national ranking for the fourth consecutive year.

The hospitals, along with sister locations in Utah and Alaska, make up HCA Healthcare’s Mountain Division, which was again named one of the nation’s 15 Top Health Systems by Modern Healthcare. The ranking is based on an objective quantitative analysis by Premier, Inc., which evaluated 336 health systems using publicly available data. Only three health systems have made the list in each of the last four years, including the Mountain Division.

West Valley, located in Caldwell, and EIRMC, in Idaho Falls, are the only Idaho hospitals belonging to a health system on the list.

The annual study measures performance across clinical outcomes, operational efficiency and patient experience. This year’s top performers posted 22.3% lower inpatient mortality compared to peers, 28.6% fewer health care-associated infections, shorter average lengths of stay and lower overall episode-of-care costs.

Health systems do not apply or pay for inclusion in the study, ensuring an objective assessment.

“Making this prestigious list for four straight years sends such a strong message to the patients and communities we serve,” said Evan Ray, president of HCA Healthcare’s Mountain Division. “It’s particularly meaningful to me that we’re the only health system on the list operating in Idaho, Utah and Alaska.”

The Mountain Division comprises 11 hospitals and 100 total sites of care across the three states and is one of 15 divisions within HCA Healthcare, which operates 188 hospitals nationwide and logs roughly 47 million patient interactions annually.

West Valley Medical Center is a 150-bed facility and holds a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
