KTVB continues a tradition of female empowerment that began more than 70 years ago when Georgia Davidson founded Idaho’s first television station as one of only a couple of female broadcast owners in the country.
Today, the Boise-based news station employs 86 people and maintains Davidson’s trailblazing vision by placing women in key leadership positions both on-air and behind the scenes. The station’s top roles in news and sales are held by women, including President and General Manager Jessica Hagan.
The station deliberately reflects its audience through intentional hiring practices that ensure strong female journalists occupy highly visible and important on-air positions. This commitment extends beyond personnel decisions to content creation, with KTVB using its platform to amplify women’s voices, stories and achievements throughout Idaho.
“KTVB consistently uses its platform to elevate women’s voices, stories and leadership across Idaho,” said Mari Ramos, chief executive director of Idaho Hispanic Foundation, who nominated the station for recognition.
The station champions content highlighting local women leaders while advocating for equity through community engagement initiatives. Its approach combines mentorship, visibility and authentic storytelling to create lasting impact.
KTVB’s newsroom culture emphasizes reflecting the communities it serves, making representation a priority in covering women’s achievements, challenges and contributions across the state.
“In local news, it’s important to reflect your audience and those you serve,” Hagan said. “To that end, we are intentional about making sure we have strong female journalists in highly visible and important positions on air.”
