Macy’s West today announced plans to open a new store in the fall of 2009 at Nampa Gateway Center, near the Garrity Boulevard interchange with Interstate 84. The existing Macy’s store at Karcher Mall in Nampa will close, and employees will transfer to the new store, the company said in a release.

The 103,000-square-foot Macy’s store slated at Nampa Gateway Center will be a one-level, open-air design featuring a “main street” entrance configuration and an emphasis on natural lighting via skylights and exterior windows. The store will feature a

full range of apparel and accessories, and merchandise for the home.

“We look forward to bringing an exciting new shopping experience to the Nampa area,” said Macy’s West Chairman and CEO Jeff Gennette. “Our dynamic store design will offer customers a new shopping experience, and our merchandise selection will deliver fashion and affordable luxury for our shoppers. We also think the new location is well-positioned to serve Nampa as well as Caldwell, Meridian and west Boise.”

A cost estimate for the store was not disclosed. Macy’s is expected to apply for building permits in early November, with a proposed construction start in February, said Robin Collins, assistant building official with the City of Nampa.

Macy’s West is headquartered in San Francisco and operates 260 Macy’s stores in 13 states and Guam. It is a division of Macy’s Inc., which fields more than 800 stores.

The developer of Nampa Gateway Center is Developers Diversified Realty, Beachwood, Ohio.

JC Penney already is open at Nampa Gateway. Developers Diversified said in a release that the two destination retailers will be connected by a street to be lined with specialty shops.

Sports Authority has also signed on and is scheduled to open at Nampa Gateway in spring 2009, along with an upscale fitness center, Developers Diversified said. A selection of national and regional specialty shops, a dozen restaurants and a select service brand hotel will occupy out-parcels on the 104-acre site.

"The addition of Macy's will further enhance Nampa Gateway Center's position as a regional shopping destination," Marc Hays, senior vice president of leasing-specialty centers for Developers Diversified, said. "This location is a natural destination for mainstream fashion retail tenants to add an additional store in the market and serve the rapidly growing western suburbs of Boise."
