Planning to take a wine-centric trip? Or would you like to embark on a few wine tastings while getting away?
Either way, the Idaho Wine Commission’s newly unveiled website should be able to help wine lovers get the most cabernet for their cash.
The commission’s new website includes an interactive map showcasing each of Idaho’s six wine regions. By clicking on the region, visitors will be taken to a page that includes information on the region, its most popular varietals and the wineries located therein. Additionally, links are provided to each winery.
There are also lists of cideries and updated events to help visitors maximize their time in each region. Idaho’s six wine regions are Boise and Garden City, Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint, Eagle, Lewiston and Moscow, South Central and the Western Treasure Valley.
“The new site makes it easy for people to learn more about and plan a trip to Idaho wine country, no matter where they live,” said Moya Dolsby, executive director of the Idaho Wine Commission. “Visitors can find itineraries for a weekend visit and details on all the great events offered year-round at Idaho’s award-winning wineries and cideries.”
The wine industry in Idaho has been growing since the 1860s when the first winegrapes were planted in Lewiston. Like many viticultural regions, the state has seen increased growth in the last 15 years, having won designation for three American Viticultural Areas, according to the commission.
Idaho’s wine industry produces more than $210 million in revenue each year, creates hundreds of jobs and helps to support the tourism industry. Within the six wine regions, there are 75 wineries and eight cideries.
