Thanks to a U.S. Department of Defense scholarship, two Boise State University students will be able to finish their education with a full-ride and job guarantee upon graduation.

Kaden Davis and Matthew Roloff were selected by the DOD as recipients of their 2023 Byber Scholarship Program (CySP). Along with the scholarship that pays for the rest of their tuition, each will receive a $27,000-per-year stipend.

Davis and Roloff are also guaranteed jobs with a DOD agency.

The CySP was developed through a partnership with the DOD’s Digital Service Academy and Congress to support higher education. According to the department, the “scholarship program supports competency development by providing opportunities to effectively prepare the cybersecurity workforce to defend against threats to the department’s critical information system and networks.”

Selected scholarship applicants, whether graduate or undergraduate, receive funding to cover tuition, books and fees, plus the stipends. Additionally, graduate students receive coverage of health insurance.

“This scholarship allows our recipients to secure our nation, achieve their professional goals and cover the remaining cost of their education,” said Jyh-haw Yeh, program advisor for BSU. “The Department of Defense’s support of the development of a cyber-ready workforce is not just an investment in the individuals chosen, but for the collective security of our nation.”

Applications for the 2024 CySP scholarship are open now through Feb. 1, 2024. U.S. citizens who are full-time juniors or seniors and are master’s degree, PhD and doctoral students in cyber-related majors are encouraged to apply. Selected students will be notified by April 14.
