As the Downtown Boise YMCA moves forward with redevelopment plans, it is partnering with several organizations to offer a myriad of different services to the community.

One such partnership is between the YMCA and St. Luke’s to provide lifestyle medicine, pediatric integrative medicine, community health and other community-based services.

According to a release from St. Luke’s, “the partnership will develop health-focused collaborative spaces, services and programming within the Y’s new future develop to serve people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds — a unique opportunity that aligns with both St. Luke’s and the YMCA’s commitment to supporting community health and accessibility.”

Dr. Jim Souza, chief physician executive with St. Luke’s, said the health care provider and Treasure Valley Family YMCA have a long history of partnering to provide health services to the community.

“We see partnering for the redevelopment of the Downtown Boise YMCA as the perfect next chapter in our shared history, and we are especially excited about what this will mean for our community’s access to better health and well-being.”

The health care partner proposal process was competitive, the YMCA stated, and took several months to complete.

“Partnering with St. Luke’s for the redevelopment of the Downtown Boise Y marks a significant milestone in our shared commitment to community health and well-being,” said David Duro, president and CEO of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA. “This collaboration represents an exciting opportunity to expand access to high-quality health care, wellness services and programming for individuals of all ages and backgrounds.”

The redevelopment plan covers two and a half blocks in downtown Boise and includes mixed-income housing, expanded affordable child care, educational space, a credit union, community gathering space and the health and wellness services.

Groundbreaking on the facility will occur this summer, with construction taking up to two years. The current YMCA facility will be shut down on the day that the organization turns the lights on in the new facility.
