Local producers have a new option when it comes to getting their commodities straight into the hands of consumers thanks to a new partnership.
FARE Idaho has recently partnered with RekoHub.com, a platform that provides an online marketplace and sets up “Reko Rings” for farmers to connect with their customers on the local level.
“This partnership with RekoHub.com is a game-changer for our local food community,” said Tammie Halcomb, executive director of FARE Idaho. “By establishing Reko Rings throughout the state, we are simplifying the process for consumers to purchase directly from our farmers, ranchers and producers. This initiative not only provides a dependable market for our producers but also enhances accessibility and convenience for consumers, fostering a resilient local food system.”
Reko Rings are similar to pop-up markets, FARE stated, but allows for pre-ordering of product through the RekoHub online platform. Customers can select their items and pre-pay through the website, then pick up the orders at designated drop-off points.
Halcomb said FARE will organize the groups of producers to coordinate the drop-off locations.
“This pre-order system reduces waste and ensures a smooth transaction process, benefiting both producers and consumers. Each drop-off will be brief, making it a quick and convenient way to pick up locally produced food.”
According to FARE, Tyler Taggart, the founder and CEO of RekoHub.com will work with Halcomb and her team to establish the groups of producers and will lead advertising efforts to increase the campaign’s visibility. Taggart’s efforts in St. George, Utah, increased sales by $2,000 in that community’s first week using his service.
“By building this infrastructure, we are helping our producers reach new markets and strengthening the entire local food economy,” Halcomb said. “We look forward to working together to create a vibrant and resilient local food network in Idaho.”
