The public will be able to learn more about a pilot sign project and safety awareness initiatives for Idaho’s busiest “non-interstate” highway.
Two in-person open house sessions will be held on Aug. 28 and 29 in Meridian and Eagle, respectively, to inform the public about the projects. The Idaho Transportation Department will be presenting its pilot sign project to encompass seven miles of Eagle Road from Interstate 84 to State Highway 44.
“With more than 60,000 vehicles a day, the two-year pilot project includes adding new warning signage and speed feedback signs this fall to aid drivers, possibly installing congestion variable speed zone signs next year, and the removal of … four mid-block left turns to help reduce crashes on State Highway 55 (Eagle Road),”a release stated.
The four mid-block left turns are the southbound left-in at Meadowdale Street; the northbound left-in at Baldcypress Street; the southbound U-turn near Ustick Road; and the northbound left-in at Lanark Street.
According to ITD, the meetings are meant to engage the community and get feedback on the proposed safety enhancements along the seven miles of Eagle Road.
The meetings will be held on Aug. 28, 5-7 p.m. at the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS), 700 NE 2nd Street, in Meridian, and on Aug. 29, 5-7 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 145 E. Riverside Drive, in Eagle. The public can come to the meetings anytime during the two-hour span that each is held.
