With a demonstrated history of putting women in leadership, AARP Idaho exemplifies the meaning of a women-centric organization. Beyond females holding executive leadership positions — including the CEO of the entire AARP organization — AARP Idaho specifically is powered by nearly 50 female volunteers who serve in outreach and advocacy roles.

“AARP Idaho is proud to be part of a movement that not only advocates for older adults but also empowers the women who lead, serve and care within our communities every day,” Karianne Fallow, state director, shared in nomination materials.

On a national level, AARP prioritizes employee and volunteer resource groups, including those for women of color, LGBTQ+ individuals and other underrepresented identities. Here, women can access peer support, align with like-minded mentors, and take part in beneficial leadership programs that help them reach their goals and get through challenges. The organization also provides paid time off for caregiving and for taking part in volunteer efforts.

AARP also recognizes that women are often caretakers and therefore require support that centers on women’s experiences in this way. Further, AARP advocacy and education efforts aim to reflect the realities that women face every day.

Through its unique combination of research, volunteerism, advocacy and community programs, AARP amplifies women’s voices and works to ensure they can age with dignity, independence, and security.

“AARP Idaho continues to be a force for equity, empowerment, and opportunity — helping women thrive at every stage of life,” Fallow stated.
