Boise ranks along with other ‘big cities’ to start a business

Considering is not labeled a “big city,” the City of Trees did manage to still crack the list of the 100 Best Large Cities in which to start a business.

Boise claimed the No. 72 spot, according to recent rankings compiled by WalletHub, the award-winning personal finance company.

While famous for its Gold Coast, , Florida, nabbed the top position in the rankings, as the Sunshine State claimed the first five spots. Orlando, Jacksonville, Hialeah and St. Petersburg rounded out the first five, while Miami landed at No. 10 in the rankings.

“Starting a business can be very scary, considering one in every five doesn’t make it past the first year,” said Chip Lupo, an analyst for WalletHub.

Despite its No. 72 ranking, Boise still finished ahead of some other big name, big cities including  Boston, Massachusetts (No. 74), San Diego, California (No. 79), and even the Big Apple itself, New York City, which managed to only register in the 82nd spot.

Besides Florida, only two other states placed in the Top 10, with (Durham No. 6, Raleigh No. 7) and , with Tulsa at No. 8 and Oklahoma City placing ninth. The Tar Heel State also placed at No. 14 (Charlotte), and No. 28 (Greensboro).

In the Top 50, grabbed nine spots ― (Dallas, No. 11; Irving, No. 16; Arlington No. 23; Austin No. 24; Houston No. 26; Fort Worth No. 30; Plano, No. 35; Lubbock No. 36 and Corpus Christi No. 39).

registered six of the first 50 positions ― (Phoenix No. 13; Chandler No. 18; Mesa, No. 20; Scottsdale No. 29;Gilbert No. 32 and Glendale No. 38).

Nevada also did well with the Silver State placing four cities in the Top  50 ― (North Las Vegas, No. 15; Henderson, No. 17; Reno, No. 22 and Las Vegas No. 27).

WalletHub compared the 100 cities focusing on three key dimensions: business environment, access to resources and . Data used to create the rankings were collected through March 23 of this year from a myriad of sources including the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
