The for the has broken ground on a $4 million restroom expansion and modernization project, the first major renovation at the venue since it opened in 1984.

At a Glance:

The project, designed by Lombard Conrad Architects, which is the same firm behind the center’s original design, will nearly double the number of restroom stalls and expand throughout the 1,994-seat affiliate.

“For years, our patrons told us what they needed most. This project is our answer,” said Morrison Center Executive Director Laura Kendall. “We are investing in the future of Idaho’s Home for the Arts ― making sure every guest, no matter their age or ability, feels comfortable, welcome and at home in this building.”

When complete, the renovated facilities will include two new restrooms with adult changing tables, ADA-compliant fixtures exceeding current accessibility standards, quiet space for nursing mothers and patrons with sensory sensitivities, improved lobby and crowd flow, and eco-friendly features such as low-flow water systems, LED lighting and recycled materials.

The $4 million project is funded entirely through private donations, internal loans and organizational reserves, with no taxpayer funds or student fees involved. State University Facilities, Lombard Conrad Architects and , which were all selected through a competitive state bidding process, are overseeing design and construction.

Construction began shortly after the final performance of “Mamma Mia!” and is expected to be complete before the fall season. Work was deliberately scheduled for summer months to minimize disruption to performances.

The Morrison Center stage will remain open for select events during construction, including “The Magician’s Table,” an immersive on-stage magic experience running July 9 through Aug. 16.

Community members interested in supporting the project may contribute through the Boise State University Foundation-Morrison Center . Project updates will be posted at morrisoncenter.com/morrison-center-restroom-renovation.
