Elvira Klein was raised by a single mother until the age of 13, and from an early age learned that opportunities aren’t always guaranteed. Instead, they’re built.
“Watching her navigate adversity with resilience and determination instilled in me a deep sense of personal responsibility, independence, and grit,” she explained. “Not everything comes easy. You work for it. You develop the mindset for it. You build the discipline to pursue it.”
That foundation shaped how she approached her own career.
“I became a steward of my professional path intentional about growth, not afraid to ask questions others might hesitate to ask, and willing to be different in the room,” Klein said. “I learned early on the importance of building a strong network, seeking mentors, and surrounding myself with people who challenge and elevate me. I believe courage in leadership often looks like curiosity, vulnerability and authenticity.”
Klein joined CapEd Credit Union in 2016 as a payroll and benefits administrator, then worked her way up to HR generalist and then people experience leader. In 2022, she was named the vice president of people experience and today, serves as the organization’s chief people officer.
“As a people leader, I believe organizations thrive when they create environments where individuals can show up as their authentic selves while still being challenged to perform at their highest level,” she said. “I am passionate about aligning culture, total rewards, performance excellence and wellbeing so employees understand both their value and their opportunity.”
Speaking of her goals, Klein aims to build workplaces where ambition and humanity coexist, and where high standards and high support are not mutually exclusive.
“Whether through career development, compensation strategy, leadership coaching or community engagement, my work is ultimately about helping people thrive not just professionally, but holistically,” she said.
Outside of her daily work, Klein is active as the marketing and communication director board member for HRATV. She is also a 2024 graduate of Boise Metro Chamber’s Leadership Boise.
Kassidy Barnes spoke of Klein’s grace and dedication in a letter of nomination saying, “Elvira is the epitome of someone who has worked her way up in business. Her loyalty, not only to her company but to the quality of her work, is rare and deeply admirable. She brings a genuine level of care to everything she does, and her work ethic is truly unmatched.”
Abbie Belthoff also discussed Klein’s dynamic leadership and said her influence extends throughout the Treasure Valley community.
“She … is known for her thoughtful leadership, collaboration and strategic initiatives,” she said.
As for what makes her stand out, Klein says it is her courage and clarity in leadership, along with her confidence in asking hard questions and challenging norms. In addition, she is committed to building systems that elevate people and performance.
When she thinks about the future, Klein aims to continue developing as a leader.
“I believe success is not accidental,” she said. “It is intentional. It requires mindset, discipline, mentorship and the courage to take ownership of your path.”
Klein added that her leadership style has been shaped by that belief.
“And [it] continues to drive my impact, building stronger organizations by empowering stronger people,” she said. “My journey from adversity to executive leadership fuels my commitment to creating workplaces where ambition, authenticity and measurable excellence thrive together.”
It’s a journey that has shown others what she is capable of.
“Elvira has demonstrated exceptional capability well beyond what is typically expected at this stage of her career,” said Melanie DeLashmutt, chief risk officer at CapEd. “She has the ability to translate complex challenges into practical, results driven solutions. Elvira consistently operates with integrity, sound judgment and a forward-looking perspective that benefits both CapEd and the broader Idaho business community.”
