PetIQ, the growing pet wellness company, broke ground for a three-story headquarters in Eagle on July 1.

The groundbreaking featured the traditional line of corporate and public dignitaries, including PetIQ CEO and co-founder Cord Christensen and Eagle Mayor Jason Pierce. Though the previous two days dumped rain on the Treasure Valley, the morning of the ceremony delivered an almost cloudless sky and temperatures in the 70s.

“We love to foster entrepreneurship in Eagle,” Pierce told the attendees of the groundbreaking. “This is going to be our model moving forward to have companies start here and then continue to grow and stay here with their headquarters. We’re looking forward to partnerships and relationships with PetIQ. We love to foster businesses in Eagle and we are going to look to do as much as we can for PetIQ to continue to grow here.”

Christensen spoke to the crowd about watching the company grow in the 10 years since its founding.

“This is a company that is truly led by people who every day get out of bed, that are competing as if they have put the first nail in the first door in the first building, and own every aspect of what the company stands for and who we are,” he said. “It’s truly humbling to be in a place where you can be a part of something like that and see it take off and do so much more.”

PetIQ’s new headquarters building will be three stories with 59,778 square feet of office space. The general contractor for the project is Engineered Structures Inc. out of Meridian.

The firm was founded in 2010 in Eagle to take advantage of the growing retail market in pet medications and products. Since that time, PetIQ has forged selling relationships with major retailers such as Walmart and has also branched out to establish a chain of veterinarian clinics under the VIP Petcare and VetIQ brands.

Pet IQ’s success speaks for itself. After just seven years, the company went public in 2017 and is now traded on the NASDAQ Global Market exchange.

The firm manufactures and distributes veterinarian-grade pet prescription medications, over-the-counter flea and tick preventatives and other health and wellness products for dogs and cats. Some of its brands include Sergeant’s, Besty Farms, Advecta, Sentry, lil’ Tex Ranch and Pet Armor. In addition to the corporate office in Eagle, PetIQ has manufacturing facilities in Omaha, Neb., and Springfield, Utah.

The company has more than 60,000 points of distribution across retail and e-commerce channels with its branded distributed medications. The company’s national chain pet clinics, VIP Petcare, operates in more than 3,400 retail partner locations in 41 states providing cost effective veterinary services.

According to Dunn & Bradstreet, PetIQ has an annual revenue of $133 million.
