Biz ‘Bite:’ Idaho Technology Council to induct Appleton into Hall of Fame

Idaho Technology Council (ITC) has announced that Steve Appleton, known for transforming Idaho’s economy by helping Micron become a multinational world leader in semiconductors, is the 2022 inductee into the Hall of Fame. The Nov. 2 event, presented by Idaho Central Credit Union, will feature keynote speaker Dirk Kempthorne, who served as Idaho’s governor, and will host the annual Idavation Awards, which “highlight and celebrate the game changers and innovators that exemplify Idaho’s entrepreneurial spirit and are currently transforming Idaho’s future.”

“We are thrilled to induct Steve Appleton posthumously into the Idaho Technology Council Hall of Fame. Steve’s leadership and vision has helped transform the Idaho business landscape and his adventure and zest for life brought world-wide connections to the Boise valley. He took calculated risks that paid amazing results and his influence on the Idaho tech scene will be felt for generations,” said Jay Larsen, CEO and founder of the ITC, in a statement.

Appleton began working at Micron Technology in 1983 and, after holding 11 roles throughout his time at the company, was appointed president and CEO in 1991. ITC stated in its announcement that Appleton was an inspiration to many and was known for his philanthropy, including giving millions of Micron dollars to Boise State University, where he graduated from in 1982. Appleton is also credited as a tireless advocate for the memory chip industry and being pivotal in educating legislators.
