Lorrie Asker, a sixth-generation Idahoan and chief banking officer at First Interstate Bank, is leveraging her 32-year career to transform financial services across a 14-state footprint.
Asker holds degrees from the University of Idaho, William and Mary and Pacific Coast Banking School. She has risen through the ranks of the banking industry since starting as a management trainee.
“Throughout my career … I’ve had the privilege of taking on roles that have positively impacted the Idaho community,” Asker said. Her work has focused on building long-term relationships that support Idahoans in achieving their financial goals.
Despite spending 26 years in rural Grangeville, Asker overcame geographical limitations to advance her career. She now leads teams of more than 2,700, driving new business and fostering client relationships.
Asker said STEM is crucial in banking’s digital transformation.
“We’re always looking at how we can use technology to help us do our jobs better and create a better experience for our clients,” she said.
As a product of Idaho’s education system and mother to a STEM high school graduate, Asker supports the state’s efforts in preparing students for STEM careers. She credits organizations like Idaho Business for Education and Micron for their meaningful partnerships.
Her next goals are to enhance First Interstate Bank’s digital banking tools, anticipating and meeting evolving client needs.
“I come from a long line of educators — including my paternal great-grandmother, great-aunt, aunt and father — who all served Idaho schools as teachers and principals, so it’s no surprise that education and lifelong learning are important values in my family,” she said.
