In 2009, Dan Balluff “went nuts” and left the tech industry to pursue a different path. He founded City Peanut Shop in downtown Boise, basing it on the classic peanut shops found in the Midwest and coastal areas of the U.S. in the 1940s.
The company has reached an iconic status, being featured in blogs, magazines and other media. Not only can its peanuts be bought through its storefront, City Peanut Shop supplies other businesses with its nuts. Companies like Lee’s Candies purchase ingredients from the business where possible.
Staying involved in the community by participating in local fairs and partnering with brewing companies and wineries, the business offers hand-crafted artisan peanuts, tree nuts, brittles, flavored corns and freshly ground nut butters.
To this day, Dan remains involved in all the operations, along with marketing.
