Jill Murphy saw an advertisement in the newspaper for a human resources graduate degree program and after reading through some of the courses offered, something clicked. Leading, developing and supporting people were all things that she had enjoyed in previous positions, so she enrolled in the program and upon graduation, secured her first human resources role.
“Fifteen years later, I can say that it was the best career decision I ever made,” Murphy said.
Today, she works as the vice president of global HR at ECCO Safety Group (ESG) ― a position she’s held for the last two years. In the last year specifically, she’s been able to expand the global team she oversees, collectively supporting over 800 team members.
“It is very important to me to serve and support the whole person ― not just the work side, she shared. “I don’t know everyone’s personal battles, but creating an environment where they are comfortable reaching out for support when needed is crucial. Being available and approachable, prioritizing confidentiality, and building trust has led to successful results.”
Murphy’s personal goal in 2025 is to continue to gain business-specific knowledge with an entrepreneurial mindset.
“ESG is part of a dynamic private equity company that is rapidly growing, and it is important to understand the business beyond the HR responsibilities to better support our people and achieve our organizational goals,” she said. “By serving and supporting our people who work and live in Idaho, I hope to contribute to the betterment of our great state.”
