Rick Hogaboam, the newly elected mayor of Nampa, died at a town hall meeting Wednesday night after experiencing a sudden medical emergency.
Hogaboam, 47, was speaking around 6:45 p.m. at the town hall held by the Treasure Valley Partnership, a coalition of city mayors from the region, when he began experiencing problems. Eagle Mayor Brad Pike, a former firefighter, administered CPR until emergency medical technicians arrived.
According to a release issued by the TVP, Pike “was sitting to the right of Mayor Hogaboam, noticed a problem and immediately responded, as did the Eagle police chief Travis Ruby, who was already on scene.” The town hall was adjourned, and the meeting area was cleared.
Hogaboam was born on Nov. 30, 1978. He has served as a Nampa City Council Member, was briefly a substitute state senator, and prior to being elected the 31st mayor of Nampa, was named chief of staff in 2020 to Debbie Kling, the city’s previous mayor. Most recently he was the Canyon County Clerk. He took office as mayor on Jan. 5, 2026, having been endorsed by Kling.
According to his biography on the City of Nampa website, Hogaboam was a husband, father and grandfather, and we committed to creating a thriving community for families, focusing on growth management, infrastructure improvements and other priorities.
“On behalf of every mayor and county commissioner in our partnership, and of our citizens, we are heartbroken to have lost one of our esteemed colleagues,” the mayors of the TVP wrote in a statement. “Rick Hogaboam was an exemplary public servant, a dedicated family man and a true friend.”
Boise Mayor Lauren McLean issued a statement Thursday morning, stating, “Nampa – and the Treasure Valley – has lost a special person, with the passing of Mayor Rick Hogaboam. Rick was an earnest public servant of deep faith with an unending commitment to his city and state. I was fortunate to work with him many times over the last six years as he tirelessly served Nampa residents – first in his role as chief of staff and then as the newly sworn in Mayor of Nampa. This loss will be felt deeply by many and my heart is with his wife and children, his friends and family, the City of Nampa team and residents at this time.”
In a statement released on Wednesday night, the City of Nampa asked that people keep his family in their prayers.
“As we begin to mourn this unbelievable loss, please provide grace while we navigate the loss of not only our mayor, but also our friend,” the statement read.
