Idaho State University launches state’s first public 3-year bachelor’s degrees

Idaho State University is rolling out three accelerated bachelor’s degree programs this year, making it the first public institution in to offer a three-year path to a bachelor’s degree.

The programs, all offered through the university’s College of Technology, lead to a Bachelor of Applied Science degree and are designed to move students into the workforce faster and at lower cost than a traditional four-year program. The three new offerings cover and leadership, and , and intelligent and trustworthy digital systems.

University officials said the degrees were developed in collaboration with industry partners to address workforce shortages in high-demand fields across Idaho. Each program blends technical coursework with leadership, communication and applied management skills intended to prepare graduates for supervisory and advancement roles.

“These three new degree pathways will allow students to earn a bachelor’s degree while accelerating their entry into the workforce,” said Jerry Anhorn, dean of the Idaho State University College of Technology. “These degrees create greater opportunities for career advancement and help students move more quickly into meaningful employment.”

The law enforcement program targets the growing need for qualified public safety leaders, preparing students for supervisory and administrative roles within law enforcement agencies and related public service organizations. The applied business and professional sales degree focuses on business-to-business environments, emphasizing negotiation, customer engagement and client relations. The digital systems program addresses demand for professionals with expertise in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and digital systems management.

Idaho State said the programs continue the university’s focus on and applied learning aligned with state economic priorities.
