The financial service firm Springleaf will change the name of its Idaho branches to OneMain.

Springleaf is a personal loan provider that was founded in 1920 in Indiana.

The company had more than 700 branches around the country, including three in Idaho, last year before acquiring the personal loan company OneMain Financial in November. Springleaf now operates about 1,800 branches across the country and nine in Idaho.

Springleaf decided to change its name because OneMain had more than twice as many branches as it did and customers around the country know the brand, said Tony Brand, spokesman for Springleaf.

“We acquired OneMain to grow and their customers in small communities around the country know their brand,” Brand said. “It was a better known, large company.”

OneMain was founded in 1912 in Baltimore.

The nine OneMain and Springleaf branches that Springleaf now operates in Idaho loaned about $42 million last year.
