For 13 years Idaho Business Review has recognized 40 accomplished men and women under the age of 40.
“These talented young professionals represent a generation that is shaping our state, our image and our expectations,” said Idaho Business Review President and Publisher Sean Evans.
The young leaders are nominated and chosen by a panel of their peers. Here are this year’s numbers: Out of 143 nominations, 63 completed the application process. The six-member selection panel comprised past Accomplished Under 40 recipients spanning 2003 to 2011, scoring on a 1 – 5 scale in four categories: professional accomplishments, leadership skills, community involvement and long term goals.
It was a difficult process, said panel selection member Moya Shatz, a 2011 honoree and executive director of the Idaho Wine Commission. She said many of the applicants scored high in one or two categories but not that many were high scorers across the board.
“Some skyrocketed in their careers but maybe not in community involvement,” Shatz said. “It’s hard to have it all.”
Her favorite part of the process: “I loved reading the stories of where they are and how they got there.”
Shatz says she was honored to be an honoree last year – and to be on the panel this year.
“It’s impressive to have a panel of your peers decide – it’s better than when your parents say ‘here’s a gold star.’”
Shatz has tips for those who want to get in to the class of 2013: Don’t be afraid to include a picture of yourself and your family. Treat it like a college entrance application and take your time to thoroughly fill it out. Put some real thought into it.
Because there can only be 40 winners.
The 2012 Accomplished Under 40 magazine will be published in the June 15 issue of IBR. The event – networking reception, dinner and awards ceremony – will be at Zoo Boise, Thursday, June 14. This year will be more interactive, more social, and more casual than in years past. Look for details in upcoming stories. For tickets visit: https://idahobusinessreview.com/events/au40/
