Viking adds apartments to its Fieldstone community in Post Falls

Hayden-based Viking Construction started work on a 208-unit apartment complex at the end of October that will become part of its Fieldstone master-planned community in Post Falls.

The first 72 units of the Fieldstone Apartments should be ready in August. A second phase with 72 units is expected to follow in 2017 and a third phase with 64 units in 2019, said Scott Krajack, land development director at Viking.

Viking has built some 4,200 homes since 1980 in northern Idaho, Spokane and Washington’s Tri-Cities, but the Fieldstone Apartments are only the company’s third apartment complex.

The Fieldstone Apartments complex is among the closing phases of Viking’s 1,102-home Fieldstone community where some 800 single-family homes and duplexes have been built since 2002.

“It’s not unusual up here to have single-family and multi-family in the same master-planned community,” Krajack said. “We have four or five price points in the same neighborhood.”

Rental rates have not been set for Fieldstone but Krajack said Viking is targeting “young families and people in some sort of transition” to potential home ownership.

The Fieldstone apartments are 24-unit buildings. The first three are under construction now.

Viking’s other apartment projects are the 66-unit Greensferry Landing Apartments, built in 2008 in Post Falls and the 70-unit Fairway Meadows Apartments, built in 2014 in Coeur d’Alene. They were both constructed as part of existing Viking housing projects.
