Dr. David Zarkou, DPM, has been named as the executive medical director of specialty care at the Saint Alphonsus Medical Group.
Zarkou will be working with service line medical directors and administrators throughout the health care company “to achieve medical group and system strategic organizational objectives,” according to a release.
His purview will consist of surgery, surgical subspecialties, cardiovascular, orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, trauma, vascular, rehabilitation, pain management, pulmonology, sleep medicine, hospitalists, critical care, emergency medicine, anesthesia, occupational medicine and wound care.
“Dr. Zarkou brings robust clinical and operational experience to Saint Alphonsus,” said Dr. Mark Nassir, president of the medical group. “He is especially passionate about high-quality, safe patient care, while also focusing on strategies to improve provider resiliency.”
Before joining Saint Alphonsus, Zarkou was the senior medical director of surgical specialties for Samaritan Health Services in Carvallis, Oregon, and the medical director for Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, Oregon.
The new executive medical director is board-certified by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. He is also a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
Zarkou earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Brigham Young University, Idaho in Rexburg. He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa, and a master’s of business administration from Western Governors University.
