Kelly Honeycutt has faced many challenges in his life, from growing up with parents who struggled with substance use disorder to suffering from undiagnosed ADHD, but he said the experiences, along with some amazing people in his life, have made him stronger. They’ve also helped make him a leader.
“I have what I call a leadership playbook. These are the ideals and values that form my personal vision on leading and managing people, teams and projects. I created this playbook from years of experience and mentorship from the many incredible leaders I have had the chance to learn from,” he said. “I am driven by two goals in life. First, to create, enable, support and be a part of teams that truly are greater than the sum of their parts. Second, to make a difference and lasting impact wherever I serve, working alongside and through others.”
Though Honeycutt struggled in high school, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Boise State University. Today he is a senior software development manager for Clearwater Analytics.
Honeycutt’s colleague Loren McGinnis said Honeycutt embodies the spirit of overcoming challenges and turning them into strengths, and said he’s witnessed firsthand the strength of Honeycutt’s dynamic leadership skills and his dedication to personal and professional growth.
“I see every day that Kelly cares about his team’s success, and I hear that directly from them as well,” McGinnis said. “His empathy and advocacy have left a permanent mark on the broader company culture.
Honeycutt said he finds the most fulfillment in life by helping others reach their potential and achieve great things, and that success is measured by the lives of the people impacted. To that effort, Honeycutt has served on the board for the BYU-Idaho Advancement Council and served as a committee chair for the DevCon Planning committee.
He’s also volunteered as a mentor for Free2Succeed, and as a finance clerk for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. James McEntire with the church said that Honeycutt holds himself to the highest standard of ethics and that he is always looking to push himself professionally.
“I think the most impressive thing about Kelly Honeycutt is evidenced by his family,” McEntire said. “Kelly is a fiercely loyal husband and father, and always puts his family needs first. His three children are involved in and excel in numerous sports and extracurricular activities, and he is always there to cheer each of them on in whatever they’re involved in.”
Todd Alexander, principal at Carlsbad Consulting, said Honeycutt is well-respected as a technical leader, and that he’s committed to his own development and strives to make Clearwater Analytics better.
“He is a great team member and people know that when Kelly takes on an assignment, it will get done and it will be done right,” Alexander said. “Kelly is an asset to Clearwater, and I look forward to following his career path.”
