Under the leadership of President Ann Monroe, Capital Matrix has grown from serving Idaho to operating across four states. The company has reported record loan volumes and increased its loan portfolio to an all-time high of $200 million, which significantly broadened the scope of financial support available to small businesses in the region.
“I don’t believe I ‘stand out’ from my peers as it takes a village to make this world go around,” Munroe said. “I could not have achieved Capital Matrix’s current success as a top 25 certified development company in the nation if it wasn’t for my team, my current and past board members, my past supervisor, all our partnering lenders in the communities we serve, and all the small business owners taking the risks to grow their business and seek financing.”
Munroe also serves on the board of the National Association of Certified Development Companies (NADCO), where she holds the position of Regional Director and secretary, and her commitment to community development is further exemplified by her nine-year tenure as a board member and treasurer of Stage Coach Theater.
“Ann has been a mentor and an excellent role model for me since first meeting her in 2006,” said Paulette Hudson, vice president and senior commercial loan officer at Capital Matrix, Inc. “She is an excellent teacher and has given me a path and the ability to learn and grow within my own roles at Capital Matrix. Ann is the epitome of leadership with compassion and respect for others.”
Born and educated in Belgium, she moved to the United States at 21, overcoming cultural and personal challenges to build a successful career.
“Moving by myself to another country, raising three incredible children as a single mom, and running my first 10K at 50 are among the personal accomplishments I value most,” she said.
Nominated for Woman of the Year in 2023, Munroe’s leadership style focuses on empowering others rather than seeking personal recognition. Her work at Capital Matrix has been instrumental in providing crucial SBA 504 program support for real estate and fixed assets to Idaho businesses, consistently making the organization the top 504 lender in the state.
“I want to ensure that my contributions have a lasting impact on the company and its employees, that people will remember those and build upon, and that I leave the company in a better state than when I joined 26 years ago,” she said.
