A nationwide retailer announced earlier this month that it would be shutting down 27 of its locations by April this year, including a location in Boise.
Kohl’s department store cited underperformance as its decision to close 27 stores by the beginning of the second quarter, stating it would impact about 200 employees. The location in the Towne Square Mall at 400 N. Milwaukee Street in Boise is one of the stores to be shuttered.
The chain plans to keep other locations across the state open. There are Kohl’s in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Nampa and Twin Falls. The company operates 1,150 locations.
“We always take these decisions very seriously,” said Tom Kingsbury, former CEO. “As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams.”
Employees were informed of the closures and either a severance package or the opportunity to apply at open roles at other Kohl’s stores.
In addition to the store closures, the company is closing one of 15 e-commerce distribution facilities in San Bernadino, California.
Other closures include one location in Alabama, one in Arkansas, 10 in California, one in Colorado, one in Georgia, two in Illinois, one in Massachusetts, one in New Jersey, two in Ohio, one in Oregon, one in Pennsylvania, one in Texas, one in Utah and two in Virginia.
