The organization looked high and low, from sea to shining sea, but didn’t need to look any further than its own backyard.
On Feb. 4, the Downtown Boise Association announced its board of directors had chosen Lauren Hamilton as the DBA‘s new executive director.
Hamilton, who is from Idaho, replaces Jenn Hensley who left for another position late last year. More than 60 applicants vied for the position during a search led by TalentSpark.
“The hiring committee took the challenge of finding a new executive director as a meaningful opportunity,” said Jay Story, president of the board and owner of Story Commercial. “We knew this person would be responsible for maintaining the excellence of the organization, while also leading it through a new chapter of growth and innovation to meet the needs of our community.”
Story added that Hamilton’s understand of what makes the downtown Boise area special and her commitment to driving the success of businesses located in the area “made her an ideal person to guide the DBA into its next era.”
Job candidates went through several rounds of interviews and exercises to demonstrate their skills. The DBA stated that its new executive director was chosen because of her vision for the organization’s future and her ability to present a “clear strategy and commitment to enhancing” the downtown area and experience for residents and visitors.
Hamilton previously worked at Boise Centre, managing large-scale events, overseeing teams and creating strong relationships with the community. She has also worked at Boise State University and with the University of Idaho Alumni Organizations.
“Downtown Boise is the heartbeat of our community — it’s where we gather, celebrate and support one another,” Hamilton said. “I am honored to step into this role. I look forward to working with our incredible local businesses, stakeholders and residents to ensure that downtown continues to be a special, thriving and welcoming destination for everyone.”
