CEO of Influence – Isaac Belden – Veteran Entrepreneur Alliance

Isaac Belden’s first paying job was at Panhandle Ice in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where he worked alongside two of his cousins with no supervision. He learned quickly that he had to hold himself accountable and get the job done right, even when no one was watching. He shared that this experience taught him the importance of self-discipline, integrity and taking pride in his work – which are all principles that he carries to this day as the founding executive director of Veteran Entrepreneur Alliance (VEA).

“Leadership and service have always been a part of who I am, but the defining moment came when I realized that if I truly wanted to create lasting change — for myself, my family and my community — I had to be the one steering the ship,” Belden said.

Belden shared that his biggest role model in life was his grandfather who taught him that being useful is one of the most valuable things a person can be. He also taught him that a person doesn’t have to be the best at everything but should always try to learn as much as possible and use that knowledge to help others. That mindset has shaped every decision Belden makes to this day, whether it’s in business, leadership or community service.

He shared that in his current role, it’s not just about running a successful organization ― it’s about creating opportunities, building community and ensuring veterans and their spouses don’t have to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship alone.

Belden said, “The ripple effect of this work extends beyond individual businesses — it strengthens families, creates jobs and fuels economic growth. Every day, I have the privilege of helping others succeed, and there’s no greater reward than that.”

He described his leadership style as “laid back but intentional” which is evidenced by what he tells his team and VEA members: This organization is meant to be what our community needs it to be — not what I think it should be, or what any one person wants it to be.

Belden explained, “That means my job is to listen first, empower others and make space for innovation and collaboration. Leadership, to me, is about creating a foundation where others can grow and succeed — not about dictating a vision but co-creating one with the people you serve.”

Humility is also key for Belden. He believes that no one should be defined by a title and while the recognition and awards that might come are special, they don’t mean anything without the people standing beside you.

“The best CEOs aren’t the ones who chase power; they’re the ones who earn trust, lead with integrity, and put their team first every single time,” he said.
