Marie Widmyer has been the owner and CEO of Marie’s Boutique and Marmalade for the last three decades. She said that something she learned in her first job cleaning public restrooms at a hotel has stuck with her all those years.

“I stumbled upon a quote that struck a chord: ‘Whatever you do, do it well,’” she said. “This wisdom has guided me through my journey, especially in the 30 years I’ve spent running my retail store.

The commitment and care I cultivated back then still inspire me today, reminding me that every task, no matter how small, deserves attention and passion.”

Widmyer explained that to be a successful business owner, she quickly had to learn to juggle family responsibilities as a mother of four.

“Launching my own business required more than just ambition — it demanded effective leadership,” she said. “The defining moment came when I realized that to be successful and present for my children, I needed to delegate tasks. This shift allowed me to prioritize motherhood while fostering a thriving business. I understood that leadership isn’t just about being in charge; it’s about empowering others and creating a supportive environment. This experience has shaped my approach, emphasizing balance and the importance of family in everything I do.”

Widmyer, who describes herself as curious and grounded, is not just an adept businesswoman, but she’s also an active community volunteer. She regularly organizes engaging auctions to support charities like Safety Net, and she also collaborates with Idaho Youth Ranch to raise funds for their programs. She also has experience producing charity fashion shows.

“Together, we’re not just making a difference; we’re building a community that inspires hope and lasting change for those in need,” she explained.

She credits the support of her family for her success, naming her husband as her greatest role model.

“When I opened my first store while pregnant with twins and juggling two young boys at home, he was my biggest cheerleader, supporting me through the launch of four additional stores,” she recalled.

Widmyer also said that her daughters have been a huge source of inspiration throughout her business journey.

“Their encouragement to take risks and explore innovative approaches has been invaluable,” she shared. “Together, they’ve shaped my path and fueled my passion for success!”

Widmyer loves engaging in meaningful conversations with people from all walks of life that spark creativity and innovation, too.

“I aim to inspire others to think outside the box and contribute their unique perspectives, making our collective journey both enjoyable and impactful,” she explained.

When she’s not running her business, Widmyer enjoys traveling around the Pacific Northwest discovering charming coffee shops and antique stores.
