Idaho Urologic Institute has achieved remarkable gender equity in a medical specialty where women remain significantly underrepresented. Approximately 50% of the Meridian-based practice’s 18 urology providers are women, a dramatic contrast to the national average of 11% female urologists.
The 192-employee organization maintains a 100% female executive team that varies in ethnicity and age. Since opening in 2005, IUI has continuously employed a female executive, either as CEO or primary administrator.
“IUI exemplifies empowerment by promoting from within, offering meaningful career development, and supporting continuing education for personal and professional betterment,” said Andrea Wilson, project manager with the institute.
The institute supports CEO Erika Ferrozzo’s participation on the Large Urology Group Practice Association board, enabling her to advocate on Capitol Hill three times annually for health care worker rights and patient rights in Idaho. IUI also funds Ferrozzo’s pursuit of a doctorate in health policy at Johns Hopkins University through its tuition reimbursement program.
In 2025, IUI expanded clinical care for female patients by certifying one of Idaho’s only female hormone urologic specialists and dedicating a patient navigator to overactive bladder and female pelvic health, with an anticipated reach of 33,000 female patients annually.
The institute treats prominent female health conditions including incontinence and recurring urinary tract infections, providing services not readily available elsewhere in Idaho. IUI was recognized by Idaho Business Review in 2025 for Empowering Women, and Ferrozzo was a Women of the Year honoree that some year. She was also a 2025 Accomplished Under 40 recipient.
