Boise State University Communications Director Frank Zang is leaving the post he’s held for nine years to take a job at the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies.

Zang, who has a long background in sports communications, starts Jan. 28 as vice president of communications at the Larry H. Miller Group. The company’s sports properties include the Utah Jazz, Salt Lake Bees, EnergySolutions Arena, Miller Motorsports Park, KJZZ TV, 1280 The Zone radio and Tour of Utah pro cycling event.

“It’s a little sad to be leaving Boise after nine years, but we’ll maintain those relationships,” said Zang, who is moving with his wife and two sons, ages 7 and 10.

Zang moved to Boise in 2004 from Salt Lake City, where he worked for the Salt Lake Olympic organizing committee and the Utah Athletic Foundation.

Boise State has changed significantly since Zang arrived in 2004. Enrollment has grown 21 percent since 2000, to more than 22,600 students, making it Idaho’s largest institution of higher education. The university’s academic offerings and physical footprint in downtown Boise have expanded accordingly.

The BSU football team has also seen changes, growing from a strong, regional program to a nationally recognized standout.

“It’s been great to be part of the tremendous growth that the university has experienced in the past decade,” Zang said. “I hope to have contributed in a small way to that. And it’s been a great chance for me to mix in the success in both academics and athletics to tell the Boise State story.”

Zang’s last day was scheduled to be Jan. 18. On Jan. 21, longtime communications and marketing staffer Kathleen Tuck, the assistant director of publications, will fill the post as interim director.
