2025 Accomplished Under 40 – Anna Courtney

Associate General Counsel – St. Luke’s Health System

Anna Courtney, associate general counsel at St. Luke’s Health System, understands loss and what it means to make each day count. Having lost her father in a plane crash when she was just 10 years old, she said that she learned two big things: Take no day for granted and surround yourself with a village of people.

“Our friends and neighbors came to our side and helped us heal in big ways and small,” she explained. “I’m not confident I ever overcame this loss, but I learned how to live with grief as it changes over time.”

Courtney also shared that one of her biggest role models in life was her mother, who taught her to how to be a working mom, take risks, embrace adventure and be a person of integrity. Those values were cemented early on in her life and as she completed her time in college and law school. She graduated on the dean’s list with her Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law and quickly got to work building her expertise in the legal field.

Courtney worked for the Idaho Supreme Court for nearly two years, then as an adjunct professor for the Concordia School of Law before joining Stoel Rives, where she worked for more than four years. In 2020, she accepted her current role at St. Luke’s Health System, where she provides legal guidance and focuses on corporate governance, construction, finance and supply chain issues.

Courtney also leads the St. Luke’s Legal externship program, mentoring law students and serving as an ambassador to regional law schools.

In a letter of recommendation, Amy Henson and Katie Ball at the University of Idaho shared, “She is kind, prompt in her communications, respectful and professional. For someone with a demanding and important position, her dedication to others in our community is commendable.”

When she’s not at work, Courtney prioritizes community service and volunteerism. She is currently on the board of directors at The Learning Lab and has served as the secretary since 2024. She is also the secretary/treasurer for the Idaho State Bar Diversity Section and has been involved with AirCraft Casualty Emotional Support Services since 2006. Previously, she was the Boise Regional Chair for the University of Puget Sound Alumni Council and was on the board of Idaho Women Lawyers.

She shared, “I believe strongly in the power of ‘showing up’ — for my coworkers, my community and my family. When I commit to an organization or cause, I engage fully. I believe in excellence, integrity and compassion.”
